As a child, I held a fascination toward pirates and life on sea. It is no wonder that my favorite cartoon also involves pirates. One Piece is a cartoon that I watch via tvbydirect.com on the Cartoon Network that follows Luffy D. Monkey on his quest to become the king of the pirates by obtaining the grand treasure known as "one piece." This dream of Luffy's is inspired by his childhood hero -- the pirate known as "Red-Haired" Shanks.
The first episode begins with Luffy emerging from a barrel aboard a pirate ship after his meager raft is cut in a whirlpool. There Luffy meets Cody who has been enslaved by the ships captain due to his navigational skills. After helping him escape, Cody tells Luffy about a pirate hunter named Roronoa, Zoro who has made a name for himself with his sword skills. Luffy decides that Zoro would be ideal for his crew and has Cody lead him to the spot in which Zoro was allegedly captured by the Navy. And the adventure begins. Through their travels Luffy assembles a crew to enter the Grand Line where "one piece" is rumored to be located.
For me, the appeal of the show is all about Luffy. He's just a fun character. I think his innocence is what draws fans of the show to him. His innocence is definitely where the show's funniest moments originate.
